The Kyoto Protocol sets out targets for countries and reviews their performance, it is concerned with the reduction of green house gases. In recent years we experienced awareness of climate change through various types of media. Excessive amount of green house gasses cause rapid changes in weather, temperature and sea level rise. Almost all natural disasters can be linked back to the climate change, global warming causes the increase in temperature of the earth with melts down the northern and southern poles. This is very worrying as places
such as Thailand predict an increase of sea level by 20mm annually. Places like United States are already looking at strategies to tackle the problems as couple of states could be at danger.
There are some positive examples of Kyoto protocol strategies incorporated in some countries, for instance Costa Rica is now running on 100% renewable electricity which is a tremendous accomplishment. Recent increase in solar fields and wind farms is evident all throughout the UK, global climate is an international matter however preventing measures can be witnessed locally. Wind farms in Great Yarmouth, by the northbound on M1 are examples of such as well as increase of solar fields, also by the southbound M1 and even near my house. Residents tend to install solar panels at their own cost to save on energy prices, councils encourage people to do so as well as insulate their properties. Quite often now we hear radio adverts offering free loft insulation. Measures as such help the country to keep within the Kyoto protocol targets and avoid fines. While considering developments there are several legislations that deal with climate change and the environment, for example; Climate Change Act 2008 and Energy Act 2011.
