Accordia is a very dense housing, which has won RIBA's Stirling prize in 2008. Unlike Upton this residential area is very dense and it focuses on relationships for all those involved in the project, architects, developer and client. Accordia is much louder in terms of architecture, although Upton inspires developers to think outside the box, this goes beyond
thatXLMS and further. The residential area indicates how outdoor external spaces can be used as a function to link public and private spaces. For instance rooftop spaces, internal gardens and semi public gardens.
Accordia really challenges the traditional use of spaces and particularly external spaces, the terraces on first and second floors which are almost unheard of within developments. Semi public gardens also create that connection between locals as shared spaces create engagement within the community.
